That's right! I've been accepted into a class on 'Energy Efficiency Retrofitting and Auditing class,' and the county is paying for it. It goes from April 4th until July 1st, 4 days a week 8 hours a day, right down the road from here at Laney College.
Since I'm getting unemployment to live on, that was one of the deciding factors. They also required a construction or skilled trades background, which I have, although it was many years ago mostly. In actual fact, it was so long ago and so ambiguous that I wasn't sure they'd accept me.
So, I guess this means I won't be getting into IT class right away, but it also means that I can get into it later this summer and next year I should be qualified for grants and Gov't loans again since I'll have very little income this year.
I've already filed my FAFSA for 2011 and I'm qualified for a $600 Pell grant and up to $9,500 in Gov't backed student loans. If I use that later and have very little income this year due to not working, I'll qualify for even more next year.
Cheers!
P.S. I think this class is named wrong.
It should be the "Energy Efficiency Auditing and Retrofitting class."
You have to audit first.
