Ain't nothing like it!
Your standard grade Jalapeno's about 5,000 SHU's, (you do know what an SHU is, don't you?) so these are what, about 200 TIMES AS HOT?
Well, I bought some a couple years ago, and some seeds!
I'm not much good with plants, (as anyone would know who's seen my Bamboo plant,) so I shared out the seeds in hopes someone would manage to grow some and I could bum a few peppers later.
No such luck, unfortunately.
However, at the same time I bought some of the peppers, (dried, of course,) which I shared, (some,) and used, (all of what I had for me.) With every set of seeds I included a piece of the pepper so people could check out what they were getting ready to grow.
Taste it?
Directly?
Me?
No way!!!
I watched a brave buddy when he ate some.
And couldn't hardly breathe for the next 20 minutes!
"Cool Shit, Maynard!"
(Yeah, right.)
I tried using some in various recipes without much luck. It just never seemed to come through for some reason, I've no idea why not.
This stuff is reputedly so hot that I even made it's own labeled container for my cabinet.
This is a couple years ago, remember, so I was cleaning out the cabinets, took out the empty bottle, and guess what...
I couldn't help it.
I had to try a bite this time.
Part way up on the right a small piece broke off.
I ate it.
Weird story here:
I only have bottom teeth.
Long story.
Anyway, I chewed it the best I could, teeth against gums.
After about 3-4 minutes I hadn't done too much to it, but did have decent flavor out of it, so I swallowed it.
Little piece, remember.
What's weird is that my teeth themselves, (especially the back side (?)) felt much more heat than my gums ever did. I got more heat, more flavor, and more, something else that felt like 'heat waves,' coming off of my teeth than I ever did my gums.
I totally expected the gums to be more affected by the capsaicin than the teeth.
Really wonder what's up there?
Oh.
To finish the story, I ended up not being able to deliver all of the promised seed/sample baggies so I ended up with one. I think I tried the seeds, but no luck. I tucked it back into the bottle and forgot about it until I went to throw it out. It's empty, you know.
Now what to do with this one, lovely, lonely, pepper to really taste it instead of everything else?
God, I love food!
