Oh, God, where are all the hot female addicts when you need them?
This isn't a real disease. This is an excuse. I mean, come on! Everybody likes porn occasionally, but, deciding to sit around and look at it for hours on end is a decision you make or not make. All you have to do is decide to get up and do something else.
Understand, when I say decide, I don't mean some vague, half-formed decision like most in your life. I mean, really think about something down deep and make your decision with the depths of your being, and then do it.
Like quitting smoking cigarettes. I quit in prison, where you have nothing to do to keep you busy, and no help whatsoever. On top of that, sometimes we would be locked in our cells for days at a time with nothing to do. Talk about driving you crazy.
Don't misunderstand me. It's not like I couldn't have had one, even locked into my cell. I kept a full pack and a lighter right on the shelf over my sink for almost a year while I quit! You can't successfully quit by avoidance! You have to decide something like that from more than just the surface of your mind; it has to come from the depths.
Avoidance may help you get started, but, if your strategy is to avoid them, you'll fail. They're everywhere. PLUS, some people take pride in causing others to fail at what they do. I suffered really badly about 2 years ago, really wanting a cigarette for 4-6 weeks. Remember, I quit 9 1/2 years ago, so it's not some recent thing. Well, my boss during this time took great pleasure in constantly asking if I wanted a cigarette, then offering me one when I said that I did. I told him no thanks, I'll just keep on wanting one.
Part of his problem was ego. He had bragged about how easy it was to quit; It just took will power. Then he quit. He lasted about 30 days then failed. Then he tried several more times and continued to fail, so he wanted me to fail too, so he wouldn't feel so badly. After all, if I failed after 8 years, he shouldn't need to feel so bad. Instead, he's just another failure.
Could sex be an addiction?
Not too likely. Sure you get serotonin, and dopamine going to the pleasure centers giving you a boost, but, do you believe that experiencing pleasure is more than you can handle? That it will drive you out of control? Not unless the wires in your brain are crossed, and what percentage of the population does that happen in, do you think?
No.
If it was an addiction, why aren't more women affected?
Sex addiction is a choice.
Get up and do something else.
If it still bothers you, you aren't focusing hard enough on what you're doing.
Work harder.
