On Government and the rich

No matter how high our ideals and intentions, governments are run by people.

Even the best forms of Gov't can be subverted by corrupt politicians and the greedy rich wanting more, no matter the cost.

One of their basic strategies is to outlaw everything that stops them from profiteering, such as the Governor in Wisc is now doing. The workers have offered all kinds of concessions, pretty much everything he's asked for, but, he wants to take away their collective bargaining rights. This means it will be extremely easy to fire and replace anyone who expects a fair wage or benefits, so they will have no option except to knuckle under.

Another basic strategy is to deregulate, which allows them to do whatever it takes to make any amount of profit. This leads to things such as the Salmonella farms, Deepwater Horizon, Enron, the market crash and other things.

They constantly lie to you that the free market will regulate itself if left alone. While this might have been true in a perfect world, our world is far from perfect and has people who manipulate the market for their own advantage. This is what caused the market crash and this is what causes the high gas prices--- market manipulation by speculators to make a profit. Not shortages.

They complain about over-regulation and oversight, but, those are the things that protect us from unsafe wells, lead in our children's toys, Salmonella in our foods, poison in our pet foods, bank failures like in the great depression, etc...

They constantly want to deregulate things so they can strip mine and clear cut our forests, because a quick buck now, goes into their pocket, and so means more to them than the National Heritage left to our children and grandchildren.

They complain about someone on welfare getting a few hundred bucks a month being the cause we are so broke, but, the reality is the rich are the cause. One CEO making a $10,000,000 bonus could have paid for over 300 new hires making over $30,000 year! One single one! Do you believe he is worth all this money? Seriously, do you? Is he worth that much MORE than you?

They want to pay less taxes, but, they already pay way less taxes than you or I. Multi-billion dollar corporations often pay no taxes at all, because they have enough money to hire crooked tax accountants and to take advantage of loopholes that you and I don't have enough money to use. They can bank offshore and hire child labor in other countries, allowing them to make even more obscene profits and avoid our tax laws, too.

Do you think it's a coincidence that during the record gas prices a couple years ago, the oil companies made record profits?

Now, businesses are allowed to give unlimited amounts of money to the political candidates of their choice. You honestly think those candidates won't vote to give them whatever they want? They would have to be willing to sacrifice their careers if they voted against them, because those businesses would give to another candidate next election. Give LOTS to another candidate next election.

And, when laws get written to bring things into balance, they manipulate things to make them toothless and unenforceable, or to get exceptions written in.

Barring all of that, if laws still get written, they twist them to their own purposes, and misapply them, all in an effort to prove they should be taken off the books as inherently unfair laws.

And, finally, when all else fails, they simply try to push things off balance. It doesn't matter which way. Sure, they will try to push things the way they want them to go, but, as long as they are off balance in almost any direction, they can take advantage of it.

The rich are out to rape America for profit.
That's all they care about.
They will live in their private enclaves, with their private security, and eat safe foods, while you will be enslaved and live in a jungle, worrying if your children will live through another day at school and if you will have any food at all for their dinner tonight.

Wake up and smell the roses.
